No, they’re not really giants, but they sure look like it! Though stilt walkers can be found around the world, and the tradition has been recorded as far back as the 6th century BC in ancient Greece, those in Saint Lucia are unique in presentation and style. Often seen at local celebrations and festivals, stilt walkers are remarkable in displaying their co-ordination and fearlessness of heights.

Stilt walking performances are often seen during cultural exhibitions such as Saint Lucia Carnival, National Day and Independence Day. Presentations are also staged at national art markets, as well as in various resorts on the island. The brightly coloured costumes, sometimes in national colours, make these dancers stand out and add excitement and variety to masquerades and parades!
