December is here with all of its wonderful holiday parties, events and national holidays. With a crisp sweetness in the air (yes, even in the Caribbean there’s a change in the weather), people are more merry in preparation for Christmas. As always, Team TT is here to keep you in the know about what’s happening in Saint Lucia this month.

Baywalk Mall – Lighting of Christmas tree December 3rd

The Baywalk Shopping Mall is one of the island’s most social and family oriented daytime spots. During Christmas the mall is totally transformed to host the epitome of Christmas cheer. A large tree is decorated in the courtyard of the mall, complete with a wooden sleigh for Santa Claus! Every year the decorators use a different colour themes, leaving audiences in suspense as to what each year’s colours will be. On the day the tree is lit people from all over the island gather around and booths with various delights are set up in the surroundings. The entire affair is accompanied with music and caroling. This year the event will be held on Saturday, December 3rd.

St. Lucia School of Music Orchestra – The Nutcracker Suite Christmas Concert December 6th and 8th at the Music Box

The St. Lucia School of Music has laid the foundation of many of the island’s best musicians and performers. Exceptionally talented musicians of all ages learn, practice and teach a variety of instruments at the school. The St. Lucia School of Music has different branches but during all come together to form an orchestra. During the festive season a Christmas Concert is always organized. This year the School of Music will be accompanied by musicians from the El Sistema Program in Venezuela on the 6th. They will be performing The Nutcracker Suite by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky at the Music Box in Rodney Heights

Festival of Lights – December 12th at Derek Walcott Square

The annual Festival of Lights is always hosted the night before our National Day, the day of our patron Saint Lucy. The Festival of Lights entails a creative Lantern Competition, Parade of Lanterns and exhibitions by local performing artists including dance, drama and music. Lighting paraphernalia is given and sold all around and fireworks explode while the Christmas lights in the city of Castries are turned on. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Derek Walcott Square.

Jus’ Sail – Vanishing Sail Movie Premiere December 12th Caribbean Cinemas 6:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m    

The company Jus Sail is hosting a charity screening of the award winning film Vanishing Sail. It was shot in the Caribbean in islands where the art and business of building water vessels and the skill of sailing were once prevalent. The proceeds from the movie premiere will be used for youth training in St. Lucia. There will be two screenings one at 6p.m. and the other at 8p.m.

Tapas On The Bay & Big Chef Steakhouse – Christmas Schedule

December 16th, 7:00 p.m. – Tapas on the Bay – Celebrate Christmas with traditional Parang, our Heineken Elves and Father Christmas.

December 23rd & December 24th, 9:00 p.m. – Big Chef Steakhouse – Join us around the piano with Boo Hinkson, Semi and Shannon for traditional Christmas Carols and enjoy Christmas food, drink and crackers!

December 31st – Big Chef Steakhouse – Celebrate New Years Eve with entertainment from Boo Hinkson, Semi and Shannon.

December 31st – Tapas On The Bay – Join Dupes and the gang for ‘the total package!’ Live music, party favors, Dupes new album release, dinner, dancing and cocktails.
