Sailors around the world and all the residents of this beautiful island know that the annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers ends in fanfare in Saint Lucia. Join in the fun events and activities at Rodney Bay IGY Marina, the official finish line, to celebrate the arrival and accomplishments of the intrepid participants.
Every November since 1986, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers has set sail from Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, bound 2,700 nautical miles westward across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean. Some boats sign up for ARC+ which follows a slightly longer route via the Cape Verde islands. This year almost 300 boats have registered for the rallies.
World Cruising Club, as organiser, emphasizes that the ARC is not a race but safe and social cruising with an element of fun competition. Its rallies are about crossing oceans with friends; feeling confident and prepared on departure day; having support and friendship at sea; and providing a welcome at the finish to salute the achievement. And in Saint Lucia we know how to greet those who have spent weeks at sea: regardless of the hour – day or night – the crew from every arriving boat is met with rum punch, fresh fruit and chilled beer!
Entertainment for the crew, supporters and visitors includes plenty of live music, cultural activities, lectures, cooking demonstrations and parties. Do join in!
