Carnival Sailing promises an unforgettable experience as you combine a boat ride with . . . Choose from ziplining, buggy rides, spa days, sunsets and more. This award-winning company has been delivering fun and happiness aboard its catamarans for over 25 years so you can count on a great day out.

Some of us at Tropical Traveller have a sweet tooth so we decided to experience the Bean to Bar tour, especially as the chocolate-making takes place at the luxury Hotel Chocolat.

After sailing down the west coast to Soufriere, we took a bus up to the resort and spent the next few hours in chocolate heaven.

Hard work rewarded with lunch

We put cocoa nibs, cocoa butter and sugar into a hot pestle and mortar and pounded and stirred for a very long time! This was accompanied by an interesting talk on the history of chocolate making and different types of chocolate and cocoa beans. When our mixture was silky smooth it was poured into a mould and left to set while we went to the resort’s Boucan restaurant for a gourmet lunch. Every dish was flavoured with a small amount of chocolate, right down to salad dressings. Delicious!

YET MORE FUN!

The afternoon was equally entertaining: a visit to the drive-in volcano and a mud bath at the sulphur springs. Back at Soufriere dock we commenced the return sail with a stop between the Pitons for swimming and snorkeling in crystal clear water. We saw plenty of fish! We were also impressed that the boat’s snorkeling gear was disinfected for each use.

SUNSET AND PARTY TIME

After all this you might expect to be heading for home but no! The drinks came out with plenty of tasty finger food and great music. The party was on! We watched and photographed the sunset, called in at Marigot Bay and danced our way back to port.

Carnival Sailing offers a wide choice of activities in different combinations. The catamarans are comfortable (with clean and efficient toilets) and the crew are helpful and entertaining. Our advice is to do a tour early in your vacation – you will have such a fantastic time that you might well book another trip.

Many tours are from 9am to 4pm, some a little shorter while a few continue until 7pm — a long day but well worth it. The catamarans leave from the Carnival office at Ganters Bay in Castries (next to Auberge Seraphine) but the cost includes transfers to and from your hotel. Also included are complimentary drinks on board, finger foods and/or lunch, entrance fees, knowledgeable crew and tour guides, a stop for swimming and snorkeling, use of snorkeling gear.
